The Alton Maypole adult group won’t be running regular sessions this year (2022) but will hopefully resume in 2023.

However, there will be a few workshops running this year which are open to people of all abilities and ages* :

– Let’s Get Creative For The Jubilee in the Alton Public Gardens on Sat 4th June workshops at both 11am and 2pm
http://www.alton.gov.uk/Lets_Get_Creative_For_The_Jubilee_42349.aspx

– The Village Fete event at the Rural Living Museum in Farnham on Sun 24th July (session times tbc)
https://rural-life.org.uk/events/the-village-fete/

*Ages 8+ are genrally best for maypole dancing although younger children are welcome to take part although may want to share their ribbon with an adult.

Adult group sessions (when running) take place in the Alton Public Gardens – 19-21 Westbrooke Rd, Alton GU34 1JL at 7pm – 8pm and there is a large car park next to the gardens which can be accessed from Lenten Street.

House Rules for the adult group:

  • Wear something comfortable and wear shoes, such as trainers or shoes with a flexible sole for the sessions. Please don’t wear any loose jewellery that could get hooked onto the ribbons.
  • Maypole dancing involves steps that can get the heart rate going. If at any time you feel uncomfortable or require a break please let me know. If you have an injury or condition that I might need to know about please let me know so that I can make suitable adjustments to the choreography. You are always able to change steps to suit your ability i.e. walking instead of skipping. None of the steps we will do are high impact. By attending the sessions you agree that you participate fully at your own risk of injury.
  • Bring a bottle of water to make sure you’re hydrated and please bring a chair  along if you feel this would be helpful.

Should you have any questions about any of the above please don’t hesitate to contact me.
